More4 in the UK did a special on the 100 greatest musicals of all time. Phantom, of course, made the list. But, I thought I'd go throu the entire countdown and add in my opinions.

100. Let's Make Love (1960)
In all honesty, I could have been just fine with out seeing Marilyn Monroe's name on this list.

99. Miss Saigon
Well, I guess if it had to be on this list, #99 is a good slot for it.

98. Bright Eyes (1934)
Stupid Shirley Temple

97. The Cotton Club (1984)
Never heard of it.

96. Lullaby Of Broadway (1951)
Actually, I've never seen this film. I know the song, though.

95. Breaking Glass (1980)

You know, for being the Greatest 100...thee's sure a lot of musicals on this list that I've never heard of.

93. How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying (1967)
I'm surprised this isn't higher up on the list.

92. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964)
A big, fat "never heard of it."

91. Everyone Say I Love You (1996)
I own this movie. But, I've yet to watch it. I guess I'll have to get around to that.

90. Cry Baby (1990)
This movie was kinda stupid. But, Johnny Depp was in it. So, that makes up for it in more ways than one :)

89. A Little Night Music (1977)
I've heard of it. But, I've never seen it. I hate the song, "Send In the Clowns."

Never seen it. But, I like Gene Kelly.

Never heard of it.

86. There's No Business Like Show Business (1954)
*sigh* Again with the Marilyn Monroe.

I liked this film. I liked Fred Astaire, although I don't think he was hot enough to ever be a romantic lead. I like Audrey Hepburn, also :)

84. Ziegfeld Follies (1946)
Never seen it. Never had enough interest in it to see it.

I don't care what anybody else says. This movie is stupid.

I've only ever seen bits and pieces from it.

50. Hello Dolly (1969)
One of my favorites.

That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean pinball! Yes, he does!

43. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1937)
I'll be sure to pass this news on to my mom :)

42. Starlight Express
Ah, yes...lets torture singers by making them keep balance on a really odd shaped stage...and, place wheels on their feet! Wheee!!!

41. Carousel
I hate this movie. H.A.T.E. it.

40. 8 Mile (2002)
8 Mile, although a good movie, is not a musical! I'll be it, there's music in it. (I'm not even going to bother arguing the rap=/=music thing) But, it's not a musical.

39. South Pacific (1958)
I knew this movie was going to make the list. For the life of me I don't see it's appeal.

38. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
I honestly believe Time Burton was sitting around one day thinking, "What type of movie would really make Stacey smile?" And, this was it :)

33. Fiddler on the Roof
I find it hard to believe that there are 32 musicals that are better than Fiddler on the Roof. This movie never gets old. In fact, I just watched it today.

Stupid movie. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

28. Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
This musical has it's moments

27. Jungle Book (1968)
Oh, come on! The Jungle Book?!!?

26. Annie (1982)
This movie didn't need to be so high up on this list.

25. Calamity Jane (1953)
Calamity Jane???

24. The Blues Brothers (1980)
*sigh* Whatever. Were they running out of real musicals to place on this list or what?

23. The King And I (1956)
Finally! A musical that makes me whistle a happy tune!!

22. Evita (1996)
Actually, I liked this film. I should buy it on DVD.

21. Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
I'm so glad this movie is on the list! It could stand to be a little higher, though.

20. The Phantom of the Opera
Well, if you're at this website then you already know how I feel about this story and musical. How it only got #20 is beyond me. Especially when the next musical up on the list I've never even heard of.

19. Bugsy Malone (1976)
Why am I imagining this to be like a Bugs Bunny cartoon?

18. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
This musical is, actually, part of a very fond teenage memory. It was the first time my best friend and I went to the theatre. It was a lot of fun!

17. Cabaret (1972)
Liza Minnelli kinda freaks me out. But, I think she was supposed to be creepy in this movie. So, I"ll go with it. (Still don't think it's better than Phantom.)

16. Willy Wonka And the Chocolate Factory (1971)
This movie makes my heart sing: "Cheer up, Charlie!!!!!"

I've seen the movie and the stage version of this show (twice). I liked it. I was really impressed. It's Hamlet goes saffari ;)

I thought I was seeing things when I noticed this on the list. And, in the top twenty! I have nothing more to say other than it totally deserves to be right where it is!

This movie keeps me dancing all night :)

11. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

9. Oliver! (1968)
Ha! This was on t.v. today! I didn't watch it ;)

8. Chicago (2002)
Hey, I was really impressed with this movie, also. If more musicals were turned into movies as correctly as this one everyone would love musicals.

7. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Whoa! I haven't seen this movie in a very long time. I wonder if they'd make me go through the virgin sacrifice again.

6. Singin' In The Rain (1952)
It's been even longer since I've seen this movie. I really should buy it.

Oh my gosh! It's Mary Poppins! I wonder if my niece has ever seen this. Oh, I'm sitting her down and making her watch this!

4. West Side Story (1961)
A must see for every music lover. In fact, at my high school it was a must see for any english class reading "Romeo and Juliet."

3. The Wizard of Oz (1939)
When I was little there was a family challenge to see if I could stay up for the ending of this movie. I was one of those kids that liked to go to sleep early. Hard as I tried, I never seemed to make it past the poppies scene. I didn't know the ending of this movie until I was 11 years old.

2. The Sound Of Music (1965)
Yes, the hills are alive...RUN!!!! ;)

1. Grease (1978)
Grease is the word...I guess. I do really like this movie. In fact, when my niece was a baby I used to sit her on my lap and make her do the "hand-jive" along with the movie. I rather disagree with with being in the #1 spot. But, hey, this isn't my list.

Other musicals that didn't get a mention that I really like:
Avenue Q
Beauty and the Beast
Bride & Prejudice
Into The Woods
Mamma Mia!
Rent
